THE DOME OF DISCOVERY: THE LIVING WORLD (SB13)
Discoveries of the secrets of life. Darwin's influence in the world of thought. Contemporary biological research.
"The subject here is Britain's contribution to biological discovery. Its many applications for practical purposes are shown in a number of other sections in the Exhibition. The theme here is twofold- the idea of evolution and the study of living things in relation to their environment, both of which are characteristic of the British outlook. The work and influence of Charles Darwin is closely woven, as it must be, into the development of this theme.
The section culminates in a survey of about twenty-five examples of modern research work in biology. In all of these the influence of the evolutionary idea is clear. They include animal behaviour, the transmission of nervous impulses, genetics, variations, animal migration, embryology and the development of the human brain. "
